Our Team

Teamwork makes the dream work -- well that and coffee!

We are two friends who succeeded individually in our own careers but felt we could make an even greater impact together. We’ve worked alongside each other for many years, even shared the same desk for a period of time. We found ourselves accomplishing more working together and having even more fun in the process. In 2018, we decided to rewrite our story to be about helping organizations and their employees be their best selves.

With over 30 years of combined experience at the local and global level with associations and nonprofits, we are able to offer expertise in the areas of membership, student engagement, marketing and communications, and program development. We pride ourselves on the ability to understand the unique needs of varying  member segments and deliver on those needs innovatively to strengthen an organization’s resolve.

So why the name Up10? The story all began in a coffee shop, like many stories do these days. We went through options like combining our last names and first names but neither felt right. We then started looking up success quotes and came across “Success is falling 9 times and getting up 10.” We stopped in our tracks and said “What about Up10” and that’s all she wrote. The quote immediately brought us back to the nonprofit world where we often felt defeated when there just weren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. But we kept “getting up” because we were passionate about the organizations we worked for and the members we served. We will keep “getting up” for your organization, arming you with the support you need so you can do the same. Also, the name was a sure thing when we discovered it was from Jon Bon Jovi and now Bon Jovi songs seem to follow us everywhere!

Jenn

Jenn

Co-founder

Small but mighty leader who knows that teamwork makes the dreamwork. Jennifer creates magic in the areas of member engagement, program development, online communities, project management, strategic planning AND “momming” three amazing kids. A calculated risk-taker who knows change is the only option nonprofits have for growth. An abandonment guru who’s given up tradition to create companies to help those who are in the business of helping others.

Jennifer has been working in nonprofits since 2001 where she started at a homeless shelter coordinating educational programs for residents. There she discovered her passion for helping others which launched her nonprofit journey. Jennifer went on to spend 10 years with the North Carolina Association of CPAs (NCACPA) initially assisting with grassroots efforts across the state and ending her career as the director of member engagement.

It was through her association work she began to understand the challenges and lack of resources most associations face. What if there was a way to “fill the gap” for nonprofits and be an extra hand or a strategic sounding board? That’s when she and partner, Sonya Guthrie, boldly launched Up10 Solutions LLC, to help organizations elevate their success.

Jennifer graduated from East Carolina University with a BA in Health Information Management. She recently completed four years at the US Chamber of Commerce’s Institute of Organization Management. When she is not working, Jennifer can be found hanging with her three kids, enjoying time with friends, or traveling anytime she gets a chance.

Sonya

Sonya

Co-founder

Sonya, pronounced like Lasagna¸ is a communications extraordinaire with a flair for the written word, a keen attention to detail, a follow-up fanatic and a dedication to bringing humor into every aspect of her daily life. After five years in ad agencies, she landed in the nonprofit world in 2003, and hasn’t looked back since. Serving as the Membership Manager at the North Carolina Association of CPAs for over a decade, she was charged with furthering the organization’s value proposition for current and future accounting professionals, building loyalty among a diverse customer base and fostering vitality via thoughtful and personalized marketing and communication efforts. All skills Sonya was able to leverage as she transitioned to a Senior Manager role at the American Institute of CPAs making an even greater impact at the national level.

While at NCACPA, Sonya hired a small but mighty lady to join her team, Jennifer Rowell, who would eventually become her business partner at Up10 Solutions and frankly, one of the best people she’s ever known. Jennifer and Sonya started Up10 in 2018 and have worked with approximately 15 non-profits to elevate their success in the areas of membership, online communities, student recruitment, communications, marketing, strategic insight and survey creation/deployment. We do what we always dreamed we could, bridging the gap for organizations whose sole purpose is to make their members’ lives better.

When not partnering with some awesome organizations through Up10, she enjoys spending time with her family, even better if it is on a lake, tying anything and everything back to a 90s hip hop song or a Will Farrell movie and tending to her zoo consisting of three dogs and a bunny.
